Celebrating birthdays and the joy found in children

Hello everyone! I know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me, but don’t worry, everything is going well!

We’ve continued to see amazing growth in our children's program and English classes, and have been continuing to work with the preschool and after school program in Lezhë.

If there’s anything that has surprised me since I’ve been here, it’s been my growing appreciation for children. I used to complain that I didn’t really enjoy watching kids, or really being around them. However, being with children almost every day has shown me just how amazing they can be. Children bring out the better (and occasionally worse) side of people.

Younger kids have been especially welcoming and encouraging for me. At the preschool, Grace and I are constantly being hugged and talked to. Even though we can’t understand what the conversations with these kids are about, I know that I always feel happier after having them. Nodding, smiling, and saying “po” (yes in Albanian) can go a long way.

In other news, we were able to celebrate birthdays with inmates at a local prison. I was expecting the experience to be a little more bittersweet or sad, but it was actually very fun. We got to see them do just a small amount of Albanian dancing. It was a great experience, and I think everyone there enjoyed themselves. We’re considering going back every month to celebrate with them.

That’s been about it as of lately, but I thank you all for your continued prayers and support.
