Some Things are Easier with a Mom Around

Updated: Feb 14, 2022

Hello everyone!

The past two weeks have been eventful to say the least. About two weeks ago Grace and I both got COVID. The tests we took were negative but everyone around us tested positive and we had the same symptoms so we can only assume. For about five days we didn’t leave our room. While I only suffered migraines, tiredness, and a cough, Grace was experiencing all that and a fever. It was definitely a bonding moment having to both be sick for the first time without our mothers there. While I’m an adult, I’m starting to realize there are some things that are just easier with a mom around.

After we were cleared to go out, it was found that our outreach coordinators also had COVID. So we were put in charge of the three weekly services led here in Milot. It’s crazy to think that in the short two months we’ve been here, we’ve been able to learn enough to have church services without them ( we did have help from other church members though).

We also have begun teaching English classes. The first day was smaller with only four students. It was a great start though and we were happy with it. One of the days that Grace and I were sick, the boys reported 14 students in the class! Within 1-2 weeks our numbers had tripled! While the boys are mainly in charge of making lessons, it’s been so much fun getting to help the kids. One of my favorite things so far has been interacting with kids who come to the English classes, outside of class in Milot. One of the girls comes to our Sunday morning children's service, and I had to refrain from laughing when she came up to me Sunday morning, and whispered in my ear “I speak Albanian”. She was so proud and happy to have said something in my language. Funnily enough I feel the same way when I learn something in hers.

The past two weeks have been hard physically and mentally draining as well, but God is good, and He’s teaching me new lessons every day. That’s all I have for now but I’m so excited to share more with you over the next few months.
